Our School Day

Normanby Primary School has a well established policy in regards to pupils access to drinks during the day.

During lesson time and in pupil breaks our children are free to access fresh drinking water, or their own water bottle, that they may have brought from home. At other times of the day, other drinks are available alongside water; for example hot chocolate or juice maybe served in our Breakfast Club, After-school club or occasionally in the dining hall at lunchtime. These are times when snacks or food are served.

By limiting access to sweet, sugary or caffeinated drinks at other times, we are seeking to to help promote good dental hygiene.

For some children access to other drinks may be required for example if the they are are prescribed alternatives by a doctor. For any families that this is an issue for, we complete a care plan with our school nurse to make sure we fully meet the needs of that individual child.

The school doors are opened to children and parents shortly before 8:50amam. Children and parents wait in the playgrounds until members of staff open the doors. Parents and carers are encouraged to use our drop in sessions if they wish to discuss areas of concern with staff. These are shared via our termly newsletters.

There is no formal supervision from staff until the doors are opened.

School equipment, including climbing walls, wooden activity trails or other movable items must not be used without staff supervision. It should not be used by children under the supervision of their parents or carers.

Registration is from 8:50am to 9.00am, after which official teaching time begins. Arrivals after 9.00am are recorded as late.

Break times will normally be in the playgrounds, weather permitting, and on the field in warm, dry weather.
