French
The aim of teaching French at Normanby Primary School is to inspire in pupils a curiosity about languages, improve their understanding of what they hear and read and provide them with the opportunity to express themselves in speech and writing whilst developing cultural awareness. There is a strong focus on developing oracy and providing opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes. Lessons are planned to engage children, promote enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning and give children the opportunity to develop a resilience to challenge through a high quality curriculum that includes listening and responding, speaking, reading and responding as well as a focus on developing their knowledge of how language works to develop foundations to be secondary ready.
At Normanby Primary School, we use the Language Angels programme which supports a high-quality, inclusive MFL curriculum that progressively builds vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, aligned with the National Curriculum. It promotes active participation and ensures that all pupils, regardless of ability or background, can experience success in language learning.
