Since my first child joined Normanby primary school, my wife and I have lots of great memories and positive experiences to reflect on which are a direct result of the great people, culture and safe environment that flourishes at the school. Over the past 8 years I’ve tried to help out in any way I could, giving up spare time to tend to the play areas, painting fences, or just providing feedback and thanks.
As life has got busier over the past few years these opportunities have dwindled. My work life balance changed from being a shift worker “lots of free time” to now working 9-5. Becoming a governor has allowed me to continue to give back and contribute for the good of the whole school. Using my experience and knowledge is the easy part as there are many transferable skills from industry in my professional life to Governance in my school life. I’ve started a Journey with Normanby primary and I am learning just how diverse the world of teaching really is. Mrs Pentney and Mr Faulkner and the wider team put in so much effort and before becoming a governor, I had taken this for granted as a parent. I truly believe in the leadership team and culture that exists in this school, it’s great to be part of it, and helping to shape the future of a positive School life in every aspect is so rewarding.
