School Council
Normanby Primary School takes great pride in its exceptional School Council, embodying each of our school rules: being respectful, being safe, and being ready. Our School Councillors demonstrate remarkable dedication to collaborating with their peers, engaging in thoughtful debates, and working towards improving our school. Their hard work and efforts are highly valued and acknowledged.
The Normanby Primary School Council comprises two elected pupils from each class. These representatives are chosen through a democratic process, involving speeches shared with their classmates. Once elected, the Councillors take on the responsibility of representing their class at meetings and other events within our school community.
Our School Councillors serve as the voice of all our children. They gather feedback from their peers and collaborate with us to enhance the school experience for everyone. They work together in sharing their experiences through whole-school gatherings, ensuring their collective voice is heard.
The School Councillors have played a pivotal role in making significant decisions within our school. They have worked with prospective candidates for various roles, conducted surveys to gather information, expressed their views on playground development, explored ways to promote eco-friendliness, and much more.
Being elected to represent their class is a tremendous honour, one that the children of Normanby Primary School deeply appreciate. They serve as ambassadors for their community at the highest level and have the opportunity to drive positive changes within our school through the power of their voices. It is an absolute delight to collaborate with these exceptional children, and we take immense pride in their valuable contributions.
Dragon’s Den Pitch
In July 2022 our school applied to be part of the ,’Creating Active Schools’, pilot scheme. Due to our commitment to PE, sports and physical activity we were accepted for the scheme along with five other schools from across the Tees Valley.
Part of the scheme involved a group of our children taking part in a Dragons Den Pitch for £4,000! We selected our School Council for the job and they spent many weeks researching and preparing to pitch to the Dragons! The pitch needed to include how the funding would be spent to make our school more active.
On Tuesday 17th November 2022 at Teesside University our School Council was given a unique time slot to deliver their pitch. Our children showed no fear and delivered an outstanding pitch to the Dragons.
On the Friday we received a call from the Dragons and it was good news! We had secured the full £4,000! This was announced in assembly and the hall erupted with cheers! Our school council had done us proud!
Since receiving the funding we now have storage containers on each playground and the field that are stocked with equipment to keep children active throughout the school day. The field now has four permanent football goals that are used weekly by our football clubs and during PE lessons. We now have balance bikes available to be used by ten children at a time in our `Foundation stage, aiming to help increase active travel to and from school whilst helping promote a key life skills and physical activity. Three speakers were purchased to be used for each playground, again helping make break and lunch times more active through music.
