‘Every child and young person should leave our care able to live healthily, enjoying safe, happy and fulfilling lives, free from poverty and with a desire to continue learning, expand their horizons and realise their ambitions and aspirations.’
Normanby Primary was awarded National Support School status in Spring 2014, and became an Academy in June 2014.
Normanby Primary School was last inspected in 2017, and graded as a good school with some outstanding features. The school offered ‘good value for money’ at its last inspection, and inspectors noted ‘Overall, pupils make good progress from starting points in the Nursery class that are generally below those typical for children of that age’.
The Head teacher was appointed in January 2008. Attainment, OfSTED noted, ‘has risen from broadly average at the time of last inspection to be above average overall and sometimes significantly above average’. The school attained the Financial Management Standard (FMSIS) in 2009, and has subsequently maintained this standard.
The school has a range of qualified staff, with differing levels of experience and a committed and enthusiastic and enquiring Governing Body. The School is sited in an attractive area of Middlesbrough, and is popular with parents and carers. It takes in just less than half its pupils from outside of the catchment area. The most recent Health and Safety Audit again recognised excellent practice. There were no pupil exclusions last year. Attendance for all groups is good. The School has national accreditation in ICT, Global Learning, Healthy Schools, Rights Respecting Schools Award, Green Flag and numerous other awards.
It is an honour to be the Head teacher of such a dynamic school in an inspiring community. It is a job that I love and care deeply about.
